My DVR's internal storage was okay for standard def programming but when I updated to HD programming, it was woefully too small to handle this. So, I purchased this unit to provide additional capacity.The unit couldn't be easier to install. Just turn off your DVR, plug the Expander into the port on the unit using the included cable. Then power the DVR back on.The DVR will then "see" the new storage area and will be available for use. Note, your internal storage is no longer visible to the DVR. This means all of your stored programming, TO-DO scheduling, and guide info will no longer be available. You will have to rebuild your scheduling and wait for the guide to populate ... DirecTV, Cox Communication, Time Warner, Dish Network and other cable customers with compatible DVR's
